Numismatics

Originally a ‘YN’ (Young Numismatist) with interests in the evolution of the coinage of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth- my growth as an intellectual and maker are intimately connected to this hobby and its community. As history that can be held in the form of precious metals, the entirety of human society can be experienced and understood in coinage. The artistry and technology embodied in currencies the world over, are a more tangible extant record in many cases than the written word, as profound as the walls of any city.

Numismatics has fostered and supported much of my interests in design work, as reflected in the various objects presented herein.

MINTING

In cooperation with Pressing Matters L.L.C. - a non-profit educational endeavor inspired by the American Numismatic Association’s ‘Mini-mint’ and aimed towards educating the public about the manufacturing of coinage, I handle the design of tokens to be minted by order. I also provide the services of cutting the dies to be used for minting utilizing machine tools and lasers.

Presented here are the final computer renders of the design, followed by actual minted products in various materials.

PRINTING

As an Albuquerque Coin Club member, I have been involved in the creation of Tokens for use by members with dealers and to conduct internal-club commerce. Paid out by the membership dues the club collects, these tokens are used as a way to foster engagement with presentations and promote volunteering to keep the club running- a concept which has begun to expand to other clubs in the region. Usually created in thermoplastics on FDM machines, these tokens are becoming a collectible unto themselves.
